A new luxury boutique hotel in Marrakech Medina
The very best way to experience Marrakech is to stay in a riad in the heart of the medina in the old city of Marrakech. In fact, staying in a riad in Marrakech is often voted by travel experts as one of the top 10 best things to do in Morocco.
Riad Sapphire and Spa, Marrakech adds a fresh dash of Moroccan glamour to the Marrakech riad scene in an understated 1920’s colonial chic style and added modern twist, updated for the new century.
The riad’s design is a clever combination of the best of Moroccan architecture and the space and light more associated with modern architecture. Airy, minimalist Riad Sapphire and Spa is a hip hangout and plugged-in place to stay.
The riad boasts eight supremely comfortable suites – one with a spectacular domed ceiling and another with a modern pyramid roof, two dazzling marble courtyards with fountains, a spa area with a private traditional hammam, a larger than average pool, a large elegant salon and a huge roof terrace with sun-bathing and relaxation areas with sweeping views of the Atlas Mountains.
RIAD SAPPHIRE AND SPA is owned and managed by Marrakech experts Barbara and Beryl. Between them they have over 15 years' experience in managing two highly successful riads in Marrakech: Riad Ariha and Riad Chi-Chi, both of which attracted rave reviews from guests and media alike.
Barbara and her husband, both Arabic speakers, have spent many years living in the Middle East and have a deep understanding of Moroccan culture. They were one of the first to recognise Marrakech’s potential, opening their first riad in the late 1990’s at the very beginning of the riad renaissance in the Medina.
Twin sisters, Barbara and Beryl, share a love for Moroccan architecture and have a great respect for its craftsmanship. For Riad Sapphire and Spa they set out to interpret a pure form of Moorish architecture with clean lines and restrained décor.
The riad can accommodate up to 23 adults and 2 children for a total of 25 beds. So if you're 16 adults and 9 children that can also be accommodated.

Our lovely roof terrace - great place to relax after trolling the souks. Great view over the medina and the Atlas mountains in the distance.
They have ensured that the skills of local Marrakchi artisans have been put to good use. At the same time, they have added a modern twist to traditional design: lampshades were custom-ordered, woodwork was all handmade (including a very handsome lattice screen called a menzeh), fabrics were hand-woven and made up into drapes, and a typical Moroccan metal railing was rendered in modern glass with the traditional design etched in.
Similar to the first two riads, the twins have kept the cool, chic look with simple, elegant furnishings that have a touch of luxury. And, just like before, modern comforts are complemented by warm, friendly, and efficient service. They aimed to create a cool modern riad in Marrakech with a distinctly Moroccan flair and offer it to clients at very reasonable rates making luxury affordable. A hip place to stay in Marrakech.
